Most people understand that Chiropractic adjustments can be an effective treatment for neck, back pain, headaches, etc. What many do not understand is that Chiropractic is far more of a powerful a treatment, particularly in regards to the nervous system of a person. Research has shown that when there is a lack of proper movement within the joints of our spine, it creates a cascade of events in our bodies that increase the stress response to the body (or increases the activity of the sympathetic nervous system). This stress response releases a number of specific chemicals in the body that increase catabolic, or breakdown, activities in a person. Thus, the body is not able to properly rebuild and maintain itself. Many times this is not perceived by the individual and the stress response continues within the body. The chiropractic adjustment works to restore more proper movement within the joints of a patients spine. When a person has proper movement within their spine, there is a decrease in the stress response, and the body is able to more properly rebuild and maintain itself (as our body’s are self-healing and self-maintaining).
